Taiwan is at the center of a complex geostrategic conflict that increasingly conjures up the risk of a direct confrontation between the great powers of the United States and China. The basic lines of this conflict lie far in the past, but are currently intensifying noticeably - accompanied by clear threats of invasion from China.
So far, the world public has only dimly perceived this acute geopolitical escalation. However, if the "trouble spot" Taiwan mutates into a global "hot spot", serious repercussions for the entire industrialized world are to be feared. The dependence of many industries on high-performance chips from Taiwan is only one aspect, as this publication makes clear.
