What often meant weeks of waiting in the military can now be done in a matter of hours: important spare parts for vehicles, drones, or IT systems can be produced directly at the point of use with the help of 3D printers—even on the high seas or in the desert.
The logistical advantages of additive manufacturing processes are enormous: That is why the US Department of Defense plans to spend over $2.6 billion on 3D printing applications by 2030 – three times the current level!
The German Armed Forces are also increasingly relying on this innovative manufacturing method to:
• circumvent fragile supply chains,
• keep outdated systems operational, and
• resolve material shortages directly on site.
